Short history of Anna's life

Anna Hegarty was born in Rossville Street Derry on the 7Th March 1930. Anna passed an exam to go to Loreto Convent at Portrush. The family moved to Marlbough Street Derry in the early 50's. After passing her senior certificate Anna went to Queens University Belfast studying Social Welfare. Anna from 1952 was social worker with County Derry welfare department until Anna's marriage to Denis Dirkin, an Air Traffic Controller, in April 1964. They lived at Glebe House Aldergrove until they moved to Islet Park Drive Maidenhead in 1977. Whilst at Aldergrove, Anna worked part time with County Antrim social services at Lisburn. In Maidenhead Anna worked part time with the Mencap and Lady Hoare Trust Charities until 1986. Anna did clerical work with Income Tax gravel section when it was at Maidenhead Town Hall. When that moved Anna worked at Pipe/Forgeing and Fittings until the mid 1990s. Anna's family were interested in singing and Anna joined the Thames Valley American Wives Choir who met at St. Joseph's Hall. When that choir stopped Anna joined the Voices Anon Choir and enjoyed very much the company and their concerts until December 2009 when Anna felt she was not strong enough to attend. Anna and Denis moved to Sheringham Court 2004. Anna had not been feeling fully fit during the latter part of 2009. Anna was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on 19Th January 2010 and died Sunday 28Th February 2010.
